Switzerland’s first digital TV channel
Qvest plans and integrates Blick TV for Ringier
Swiss publisher Ringier has entered digital broadcasting with its daily newspaper BLICK: In order to meet the changing media usage, Blick TV distributes its news offering exclusively digitally and online – thus foregoing linear television. As system architect and general contractor, Qvest was responsible for the technical planning and integration of the digital news channel within an ambitious time schedule.

State-of-the-art production system
Blick TV streams a diverse programme of live reports, current affairs and live shows every day – and can go on air with breaking news within three minutes. An essential prerequisite for this efficient workflow is a fully integrated production solution that combines newsroom, MAM, studio automation as well as playout in a single software application. Even pre-recorded live broadcasts are added to the broadcast automation and playout server.
Another special feature is offered by the integration of live subtitling that can be deployed beyond just the standard lines of TV. With the subtitling system provided by HMS, a Qvest company, and the tight integration with the OTT platform, subtitles can be set to the TV service and for other publishing media and fields of application – such as the distribution of live content via out-of-home media.
“With the digital media infrastructure by Qvest, we skip linear television and go straight to modern streaming – always up-to-date, always close to the action,” says Beat Vontobel, technical director at Blick TV. Via the production system, interview partners can be easily and quickly integrated into the live broadcast in live feeds from almost anywhere in the world.
